How Print Ports Work

The most common type of print port is the DB-25 connector, which has 25 pins and was widely used in the past for connecting printers to desktop computers.

When a user initiates a print job from their computer, the operating system sends the print data and commands through the print port to the printer. The printer then processes the information and produces the physical printout. Print ports also allow for two-way communication, where the printer can send status updates and error messages back to the computer.
