Number converter — FAQ

How do you convert binary to decimal?

Add up the place values of each 1 bit. Binary 101010 = 32 + 8 + 2 = 42. The tool does this instantly — just type the binary number.

How do you convert decimal to hexadecimal?

Divide by 16 repeatedly and read the remainders bottom-up, using A–F for 10–15. Decimal 42 = 2A in hex. Or just type 42 in the decimal field here.

Why do IT technicians need binary and hex?

IPv4 addresses, subnet masks, and MAC addresses are all binary or hexadecimal under the hood. CompTIA A+ and Network+ expect you to convert between bases by hand.

Is this converter free?

Yes — it's free, needs no account, and runs entirely in your browser.
